G&J Greenall had a local PC based EDI facility, supported remotely by third party consultants and VAN providers, however, the company wanted to make a step-change in its customer-facing integration capabilities and thus opted for a hosted, managed service solution from Wesupply that offered enhanced support, increased transactional visibility, and real-time automated alerts for problem resolution.

“By moving to a fully hosted One-Time™ hub on the Wesupply network, we will have full connectivity with our key client base -  companies such as Tesco, Morrisons, ASDA, Sainsbury’s, The  Co-operative and Bookers”, says Pete Revill, IS Manager at G&J Greenall. “With a common view of the full purchase order to invoice cycle we will have a far clearer view of demand which will help us enhance our performance with our customers.”

Sainsbury’s prepare to roll out Wesupply’s OneTime EDI solution

COVENTRY 5th November 2010 –Further to recent announcements, the Sainsbury’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) re-platforming project has reached a point where the retailer is preparing to roll out their new EDI platform – Wesupply’s OneTime EDI Solution.

Sainsbury’s announced in a letter to their suppliers last week, that the new service will be rolled out across the entire supplier community during 2011, starting first with the replacement of their current web-EDI solution.

The new solution will provide an enhanced set of tools where suppliers will be able to achieve greater visibility of the status of their EDI transactions, proactively deal with any potential issues and will include an extensive reporting suite.

If you are a Sainsbury’s supplier and have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Sainsbury’s on-boarding helpdesk.

Easing the flow of transactions

COVENTRY 5th August 2010 – Garden products maker, Hozelock, needed an electronic trading solution which would enable the company to respond quickly to customer requests. Outsourcing proved to be an ‘intelligent’ decision, providing a versatile solution with fewer errors.

Hozelock is a leading manufacturer of garden equipment, with a reputation for innovation, quality and good value. Based in Birmingham, UK, the company has over the last fifty years developed a comprehensive range of products from garden watering systems and pressure sprayers to aquatic equipment.

Hozelock had been electronically exchanging invoices and orders with its customers for over 20 years, using an on premise, third party EDI solution. However, the company was finding it increasingly difficult to accommodate forever changing customer requirements. Each time there was a change in a customer’s trading requirement, the solution needed to be reconfigured by Hozelock’s IT department. It was felt that this was an unnecessary drain on resources and was not a core competence of the business.

After carefully assessing options on electronic trading, the company elected to outsource their EDI to Wesupply as a fully managed service. The fact that OneTime™ is an outsourced solution was an important factor in Hozelock’s decision making process as no hardware, software, database, or integration tools were required and the company did not need to make a major investment in internal project teams or maintenance. In addition, Wesupply already had connections into most of Hozelock’s customers which allowed for a quick and low-risk transition.

“Our existing solution lacked flexibility to meet the changing requirements of our customers and it could not easily support non standard requirements and new technologies. As a result, the lead-time for adapting to new requirements or on-boarding a new customer was lengthy”, explains Trevor Austin, Director of IT at Hozelock.

Wesupply’s fully managed ‘intelligent’ B2B electronic trading solution, OneTime, enables Hozelock to rapidly respond to its customers’ electronic trading mandates, while freeing up valuable IT resources. Consequently, OneTime has played a critical part in helping Hozelock meet the service levels targets set by its customers.

Another important factor in Hozelock’s decision to move to the OneTime solution was the ease with which it could be integrated with the company’s ERP system. The solution seamlessly integrates with the company’s back office system, enabling files to be imported and exported directly to and from customers.

“The OneTime solution has enabled us to react quickly and efficiently to our customers requirements, without tying up our IT team”, says Austin. Initially the company was using the solution to communicate with nine customers, and this has now been extended to sixteen. Some of the additional customers that are now using the solution have non-standard requirements, which would have proved to be particularly difficult to accommodate with the company’s legacy system. However, with OneTime, Wesupply handled the complete on boarding process, allowing the IT team to focus on their core responsibilities. It was this ability to easily add new message types and on-board customers quickly that led to the decision to outsource their electronic trading to Wesupply.

OneTime has allowed Hozelock to consolidate their current customers onto a single EDI platform whilst also allowing them to meet electronic trading mandates from new customers without the need to develop, maintain and support an internal integration/mapping solution.

“Wesupply’s fully managed, outsourced solution has removed the complexities of electronic trading from Hozelock, enabling the company to focus on the core objectives of their business,” commented Jerry Quinn, Industry Director at Wesupply.

Hozelock now connects to sixteen of its major customers through Wesupply, which accounts for 70 per cent of the company’s UK turnover. It is the company’s aim to eventually connect with all their customers using OneTime.

Hozelock has realised many business benefits as a result of outsourcing their EDI requirements to Wesupply: The company can now respond rapidly to changing customer requirements; order entry errors have been dramatically reduced; customer service levels have significantly improved across the customer base; IT costs have been reduced and new customers can now be quickly and efficiently on-boarded to the system. In addition, Hozelock now has the ability to support non-standard customer requirements and new technologies.

‘Intelligent’ B2B platform drives customer service improvement

COVENTRY 24th June 2010 – Atchison Topeka, a logistics services company specialising in the food sector, needed to improve efficiencies in its customer order processes. The company’s aim was to remove errors resulting from the manual entry of orders, while also achieving real-time supply chain visibility. The solution was to move to an ‘intelligent’ electronic trading platform.

Established over 20 years ago, Atchison Topeka is a leading third party logistics (3PL) company specialising in food ingredients. The company provides innovative logistics solutions to customers requiring the delivery of food ingredients into UK manufacturing centres.

Atchison Topeka has a strong customer base which includes some of the most recognisable names in the industry. Typical products handled include chocolate, bagged powdered ingredients, jams, fruit mixes and sugars. Bulk ingredients include liquid chocolates, sugars and milk.

With a large number of key trading partners, Atchison Topeka was experiencing problems with their existing manual order entry process. The time-consuming process involved dealing with large quantities of paperwork and incoming fax orders, resulting in a considerable number of errors.

For a company like Atchison Topeka, punctuality is imperative if crucial customer delivery dates are to be met. The company could not afford for order processing errors to impact on their levels of customer service.

After careful consideration Atchison Topeka made the decision to outsource their B2B electronic trading to Wesupply, allowing connectivity to their customer base via a single platform. This enabled greater control of the customer ordering process and ensured 100 per cent inventory record matching. Errors are now eliminated before they impact upon performance; costs associated with the previous manual procedure have been reduced, and Atchison Topeka has significantly improved the quality of service their customers receive. The fully managed service also enables Atchison Topeka to be more efficient through the quick and easy addition of new trading partners, as and when required.

“Our existing B2B processes were hugely inefficient and the situation was worsening with each additional trading partner,” says Darren Cronshaw, Operations Director at Atchison Topeka. “The order processing solution in place lacked resilience to the changing demands of our customers and it was decided that a more robust and scaleable electronic trading solution was required”.

Atchison Topeka implemented OneTime, Wesupply’s fully managed B2B electronic trading solution to rapidly integrate its business processes with those of its customers. The solution was rolled-out over a six month period to the company’s major customers, and orders, invoices and acknowledgements are now exchanged easily and efficiently with zero errors.

“We have customers linked via the OneTime solution, with varying levels of complexity, from simple order transfers to full SAP integration across multiple operating sites throughout Europe,” says Cronshaw. “It’s our plan to roll out the solution to our entire customer base to further improve our supply chain”.

Jerry Quinn, Industry Director at Wesupply says, “OneTime has enabled Atchison Topeka to streamline its incoming order and invoicing processes, whilst providing full visibility into the order cycle, thus reducing errors, improving stock management and increasing inventory record matching.”

“We’d been looking for a solution for some time, which would improve our visibility and that of our customers on the status of orders. Wesupply demonstrated an understanding of our requirements and provided numerous customers references. This proven track record, along with the flexibility of the OneTime solution, were important factors in our decision making process,” says Cronshaw.

The Wesupply solution has given Atchison Topeka the increased supply chain visibility they required and enabled them to eliminate costly order processing errors. “The implementation of the OneTime solution has enabled efficiencies across our customer-facing supply chain which was previously unattainable,” states Cronshaw. “We can now exchange real-time supply data with our customers, enabling increased efficiency and improved customer service.”

Key business benefits realised so far include: Elimination of order processing errors, automated stock reconciliation daily, reduced overheads, reduced working capital, reduced lead times, and improved customer service.

“We not only needed a solution that would resolve the order entry issues we were experiencing, it also needed to be simple to use, thereby allowing us to focus on our core business without worrying about IT,” explains Cronshaw.
