Multi-site collaboration success through Wesupply.com delivers improved stock management and service levels for Alstom Transport

15 April 2008

LONDON, 15 April 2008 - Alstom Transport, the leading developer of the most complete range of systems, equipment and service in the railway market, successfully implemented Wesupply.com's On Demand Supply Chain Management solution to carry out its multi-site collaboration project, resulting in improved stock management and reduced lead times due to greater control and visibility over their internal supply chain.

Since 2006, Wesupply.com has been the underlying technology integrating Alstom Transport's multiple plants throughout the complete build and supply planning process and the management of fulfillment execution across the entire organisation.

With manufacturing distributed across more than twenty individual sites world wide, Alstom Transport was challenged with a lack of visibility and synchronisation of its inter-site flows. Despite standardisation efforts provided in order to deploy common supply chain processes the sites were still functioning as separate entities. The lack of visibility and collaboration lead to a closed and inflexible internal supply chain network. Consequently, an environment lacking in confidence between suppliers was formed, resulting in inefficient processes being undertaken on a daily basis.

"As the quality of expressed need requirements was poor, sites tended to stabilise their production for a long frozen period." Explained Annie Saillard, Supply Chain Director, Alstom Transport. "On the other hand each of our internal customer plants was adding extra days to their expected lead times due to low confidence in supplier delivery performances."

Wesupply.com provided Alstom Transport with an On Demand Supply Chain Management Solution to provide a single, unbiased view across their entire internal supply chain.

"The internal collaboration across our sites facilitates an improved trusting relationship, enabling improved control of scheduling and fulfillment, whilst providing a real-time global view of our business from any location. This has translated into improved supply chain performance through inventory reductions, improved service levels between plants and greater manufacturing efficiency" Stated Annie Saillard, Supply Chain Director, Alstom Transport.

Elyka, the niche consulting player in supply chain management and collaboration, helped Alstom Transport in defining the suitable collaborative processes to be implemented between the sites, and the process of selecting a solution.

Alstom Transport is now easily exchanging orders and commitments between their internal plants, whilst seamlessly leveraging, and integrating with the SAP system already in place across the organisation.

"Employment of Wesupply.com's On Demand Supply Chain Management solution at Alstom Transport is enabling full control of its internal supply chain." Commented Robert Godfrey, VP Global Sales, Wesupply.com "It is providing a highly flexible, collaborative platform that allows the internal ‘Customer and Supplier units' to synchronise supply and demand across a complex multi-tiered supply chain. This solution has not required Alstom Transport to investment in hardware, or infrastructure and has also been implemented with a low requirement from internal IT resources. It is a great example of the benefits of the On Demand approach to complex business problems."
