Sainsbury’s EDI Initiative

Sainsbury’s, in partnership with Wesupply and IBM, are currently implementing a new managed EDI service across the Sainsbury’s supplier community.

The new managed service replaces Sainsbury’s current electronic trading EDI systems and will reduce the cost to the business of EDI services, while also offering Sainsbury’s suppliers with the opportunity to do so as well. The solution is an IBM hosted and managed service, which is based on the Wesupply B2B application.

“Sainsbury’s has been a long-term user and proponent of electronic trading with suppliers and by selecting Wesupply and IBM will upgrade and extend this capability for the benefit of both Sainsbury’s and its suppliers,” said Tim Goalen, Director of Supply Chain Operations, at Sainsbury’s.

This new trading initiative will provide an effective platform to help Sainsbury’s and its suppliers discover better ways of managing overall business-to-business communication. The new solution will be both high performance and highly resilient and will provide an improved version of all current functionality as well as offering enhanced connectivity options, greater visibility and increased reporting. It will allow both Sainsbury’s and its suppliers to make smarter use of EDI data.
